What do you feel like eating right now?

I have asked this question to numerous people ever since childhood. More so because there probably is something that I feel like having and can't .. so its like I am checking to see what the other person wants to have. In fact, my sister and I used to talk at length what we feel like eating.. well, I used to talk and she wanted to get the conversation over with and go back to what she was doing. Talk about what is the first thing I am going to eat after my exams are over and the vacation starts, or what I feel like eating after coming back from a nice dinner. Weird, but I never felt like not eating. There would always be some substance .. maybe ice cream or coffee or vada-pav or chicken tikka or something, basically, that I want at a particular moment. Or probably I never thought about this stuff when I was really content.

Right now, post-lunch I feel like having a Tiramisu, but looks like I'm going to have to settle for a Chantico. Hm; such is life.

Dip dip dip .. ?

Indian scientists are supposed to have developed a 'tea pill'. The pill, which is made from natural tea ingredients can be chewed or dissolved in hot or cold water .. to prepare instant tea!
Amazing. I, for one will definitely give it a try when it comes out (sometime this year). After coming to the US, I tried to keep my tea drinking habits alive, but it would just take too long. So I switched to coffee. However, Prashant and Ajit with their zeal for daily tea kept the habit alive and kicking. [They were my roommates and coerced me to make tea every morning].
Anyhoo .. tea from tea bags is okay .. but cant really make up for the real thing. So I am hoping this new pill thing would do the trick. Bring it on!

Satisfaction

Good food. Not only does it rhyme, but it also gives us an immense sense of satisfaction. Ofcourse, you have to take part in the food being good. You won't feel satiated just looking at good food. I always got unrivalled satisfaction from eating good stuff. Only since I came to amrika did I really start enjoying cooking, and thus learnt that cooking a good meal also gives you satisfaction. So, in essense; the participation must be either in the eating or the preparation of the food. [How else can one participate].
The general feeling of happiness of making an absolutely smashingly delicious dish is something ... I havent experienced yet; but even preparing a decent one gives a certain amount of content. Good cooks, I say, must be a satisfied lot. Those who hire them, even more.
Eating, on the other hand (or fork if you must), is something everyone enjoys. You crave something. Like I am craving Mango Icecream right now. Delicious, yellow, creamy, mango icecream. Indian. The kind you get in amrika is palatable, thats it. Sigh. It all boils down to the same old thing doesnt it?

P.S. I have observed I tend to write/think about food AFTER lunch.

P.P.S. Which word occured most times .. good / food / satisfaction?

thats how many buffalos?

Went to BuffaloWildWings yesterday night. Good place, excellent wings. Buffalo wings and beer and good friends. What more can one ask for? A good game on TV maybe .. well .. next time. They have some 12 different sauces you can have the wings with -- ranging from mild to hottest. We ate about 75 wings .. plus some other stuff. Late into the night, in one moment I can only describe as mentally dilapidated, me and a friend decided to try one -- just one wing each with their hottest sauce - the blazing hot sauce or whatever its called. We ate it .. nothing. After about 10 secs ... it felt like the whole of my mouth was on fire, my lips started burning, no matter how much water or beer I drank. Only copious amounts of blue cheese dressing made things better. Couldnt eat anything after that. Will surely go there again though.

Adding some spice..?

Why do some people think that making food, of which chilli powder constitutes approximately 10% makes it taste better?

aargh

I am a food fanatic. I miss Indian food like hell (when I decide to return to India for good, this will be the #1 reason). Mostly outside stuff but homemade stuff too. So whenever there is any event etc, I always ask my friends/family etc 'khayla kay hota?' (what was there to eat), and my friends being the friends they are .. intricately describe everything, leaving me hungry and frustrated. kya kaare, I asked for it.
So by now, I am somewhat used to it. I feel the pangs of hunger, I miss the stuff that my friends are eating, but I don't feel as sad. However once in a while I get caught unprepared. Like a few days back mom told me she had sitafal rabdi. That was it; a complete meal .. chicken tikka masala, malai kofta, parathas, jeera rice and later the goddamn sitafal rabdi was dreamt up by my imbecile brain. I am still getting over it.

Home made Jalebis

Yesterday, I had the privilege of eating home made jalebis. Never knew anyone who made them at home .. but as necessity is the mother of invention ... R made them .. right here .. in Duluth!! She tried her hand at them over the weekend .. and was not quite what we will call successful (we may be deprived of outside indian food, but we keep our standards high) . Undaunted, unafraid of stinging critisism and floppy jalebis we were subjected to another batch .. and .. voila! The jalebis were crisp, tangy, .. perfect. Hats off Ms. R ... (hope this post extracts more benevolence from her)

GudiPadwa

Heres a photu of what we had made for dinner on GudiPadwa. (clockwise) Poori, bhaat, green chutney, batata bhaaji, shrikhand, kurdai, lassi

It was the best dinner ever! Classic case of many cooks coordinating and not spoiling anything. Seriously me thinks we should open up a restaurant here in the US .. the food will definitely be better than some of the places I've been to.

Alas the days in Duluth are numbered .. and cooking such meals with friends (and later finishing the same and reflecting on the meal for days to come) will soon be a thing of the past. (Or will it?).

Don't worry fellow roommates..(and almost roommates) (and friends- (now everyones covered)) I'll cook for u guys when u come over to my place then! (Ha! that'll keep them away).
