So, as I was saying. I set fire to my microwave the other day. My roommate, having received a fresh box of kaaju katli from somewhere, promptly dispatched it to the refrigerator. If there is one thing I don't like - thats eating mithai from the refrigerator. It becomes all hard and .. well .. just loses a large chunk of its value to me. So when I was in a KaajuKatli eating mood, I took out 2 pieces and wrapped them in a paper towel and kept them in the microwave for 5 seconds. Just 5 seconds mind you.
Little did my brain contend that the thin wafer of silver thats on this kind of mithai is actually metal .. that shouldnt be put into the microwave. It sparked. The sparks set the paper tissue on fire. I was blissfully unaware of anything. I opened the microwave after the beep and put my hand inside to retrieve the rejuvenated pieces of delicious mithai. Instead I ended up yelling 'my microwave is on fire!!!!' (I was on the phone at that time). The other person was like 'Whattt???' I blew on the stupid thing to try and blow it out. Nope .. nothing doing. I thought about taking pictures while the stuff was on fire .. but wisely decided against it. The fire was limited to on the top of the rotating glass thingy inside the microwave, but it could spread and who knows what burning microwaves can do. A few careful splashes of h2o did the trick.
So anyways .. here are the results. If I were a disshevelled artist I am sure any Museum of Art would gladly accept my entry.

How did the burnt one taste?

btw metal is okay in the microwave as long as its not very thin...
ps: why the security code and all?

Posted by: Pooja at December 6, 2005 11:38 PMHmmm.. if it weren't for the paper, things would have turned out well, actually.
I tried this once - deliberately put mithai with silver foil on it in the microwave. The blue-green sparks looked really cool.
If you do it well (2-3 seconds for a small barfi?), the mithai takes on a nice roasted favor.
Try it! >:)
Posted by: Chinmay at December 7, 2005 09:30 AMhey i tried it once as well,
it looked similar to what chinmay has described :-)
way to go,
and now ajit is there to complete the process :-)
P.S. anya keep the fire extinguisher handy!
Posted by: key at December 8, 2005 02:31 AMNow that ajit is here --
1. The paramedics and firemen have been alerted. They drop by once a day to check that everything is ok.
2. I also need to keep 24 hr phone nos of electricians and plumbers in handy.
