My fav hotels

The brain is a strange piece of fat. It can think up the most unexpected of things. My brain took me along a long ride of the past a few days back. A pleasant journey too. I recalled all the hotels that I have stayed in, all over the world, and have liked. Of course, the 'enjoyment' of a stay depends on a lot of things .. the place itself, the company you have, the weather etc. So without further digress, here they are-

  • The Fulbari, Pokhra, Nepal. Amazing resort situated bang on the edge of a cliff, nestled in the folds of the Himalayas. Excellent view, beautiful weather. I particularly remember the outdoor heated swimming pool with a breathtaking view. Do have a look at their photo gallery.
  • The Ambassador, Bangkok, Thailand: I remember this place for the food. Their thai restaurant has food to die for. We were there for 3 days and had dinner at that place twice. The morning breakfast buffet is also pretty good.
  • Taj Holiday Village, Goa, India: A lot of fun. I always started their dinner buffet with a plate-full (or two) of dessert. Good beach, good food, enjoyable stay.
  • Machan Wildlife Resort, Chitwan National Park, Nepal: I have fond memories of this place. They offer decent accomodation. good wildlife tours on elephants, excellent food. Accomodation is in huts .. with NO electricity, kerosene lanterns etc. Its fun .. the food is delicious, the safari is pretty good with guides who know their stuff. Surprisingly, also had an emrald-green swimming pool. I went during summer and it was sweltering hot.
  • Sagar-sawali / Sagar Hotel, Karde, India: Its a bunglow for rent .. bang on the beach, in the beautiful, peaceful village of Karde. Have been there a lot of times with my family .. always enjoyed the vacation. Lots of stuff to do and spots to see. They have a skilled cook .. who will make anything you want.
  • Shalini Palace, Kolhapur, India: A pretty good hotel .. in its time. I have heard its not worthwhile now. A palace that has been converted into a hotel .. had good rooms and good food. I particularly remember the kolhapuri pandhra rassa.
  • Some hotel, Murud, India: I have completely forgotten the name of this place, even though I have been there some 3-4 times. It is a very simple 'hotel' if you can call it that. Bare rooms .. right on the beach .. with coconut trees lining the shore and hammocks to relax in. Yummy fish available in the nearby Patlachi khanaval.
  • La Quinta, Miami, USA: Decent place. The reason it made this list is the fun I had lounging in their spa .. late into the night and chatting with friends.

These were the places that I could recall off-hand. There may be some I have missed. Advancing age does take its toll you know ;-)
