Job Interviews

Job Interview. Broke out in a sweat already? Some do; some turn the tables and bring out the best in them. Here are some gems - following are actual answers I have known people to give at job interviews. I know 2 of these geniuses personally.

  • Non-technical guy giving telephone interview for a position requiring cursory knowledge of java:
    Q. What is the extension of a java file?
    A. .jv
  • Again, (another) guy with statistics as major giving telephone interview for a requirement which needed cursory database knowledge -
    Q. Have you worked with SQL [pronounced 'sequel']?
    A. No, but I have worked on SQL [pronounced S.Q.L.]
  • In-person interview ..
    Q. Suppose you are driving a car, are in a hurry and you suddenly realize that all the nuts of a tyre have come off and the tyre is about to fall off. What will you do? [Now, a typical answer will be like .. I will stop, remove 1 nut from each of the other 3 tyres and put them on the 4th tyre .. so that all tyres wil have 3 nuts each]
    A. I will drive it on rim, as I have seen Ajay Devgan do it in a film.

UPDATE: I know that the 1st guy was, and I think the 3rd one was also affered the job.

here are couple of other incidents ..... there was a guy Mr. X in my class ..... he completed his BE Comp with distinction .... thatz what I have heard .... u wont believe that he even completed it after readin this incidents ......

First year practs: Mr. X puts his floppy sideways in the drive and then keeps on thinking and tryin to see why it is not working ..... finally he decided that the drive is bad and moves to next comp and again does the same sidewayzz floppy thing

Second year practs: Mr. X appers for data structures pratical exam ... lights go in between ..... Mr. X goes out of lab and gets a printout of a program for creating binary threaded tree ..... after the power is back .... Mr. X starts typing the program looking at the printout he got ...... and then the most amazing question comes ..... where is the arrow key (->) on the keyboard

Some Assembly Language practs: Mr. X copies the program from some hidden drive ...... and runs the program succesfully ... at the orals .... the examiner asks what is the meaning of the statement INT 21H ...... Mr X: the statement indicates that 21 is an integer ........ :)

    For non IT ppl ...
    1. If anyone even has 'cursory' knowledge of java .. they know that the extension of a java file is .java [or .class .. if you want to stretch it]

    2. sequel and S.Q.L [es queue el] are different ways of pronouncing the same thing!

Posted by: anya at December 13, 2004 11:37 AM

This happened at my latest interview.

    Q. What are your weaknesses?
Me: Food, Smokes, Drinks, Gadgets and Wemmen.

Most were stunned, I got the job.
