For long have I put off writing this. It pains me a lot to write it, for, once, I regarded The Times of India as an excellent newspaper. I used to read the Economic Times every day, browse through Indiatimes if I had time to spare and in general marvel at the widespread Times Group. As years passed, however, the quality of reporting within these publications has drastically decreased. I know I am not the first one to lament about it, many others, notably Jivha used to crusade against the Times regularly. Now I hardly even go to the Economic Times page. Why so?
Heres more.

Posted by: Chinmay at October 31, 2004 11:53 PMYu bet its absolutely pathetic...Maybe you should try out the e-paper which is the print copy of TOI. I guess the reporting there is much better without the crappy-cheapo PPt presentations!
Posted by: pseudofreud at November 1, 2004 01:41 AMTimes of India sucks. BTW, who told you it's a newspaper? It's a tabloid! And there too, Mid-Day beats it by leaps and bounds.
Posted by: Amol Hatwar at November 1, 2004 08:54 AMI agree completely. ET, a few years ago, was noted for the amusing and doublemeaning titles it gave to each article. The ET i see now on the internet, looks as if its being run by a bunch of commerce teenagers!!
Posted by: Nupur at November 1, 2004 10:46 AMTimes is becoming more and more like National Enquiror and the likes that you get at grocery stores.. Its just hard to imagine how such a respected newspaper would degrade to this... Sad really...
Posted by: Prashant at November 1, 2004 01:57 PMthe 3 wheels of TOI
1. Mallika Sherawat
2. Veerappan
3. Sizzling Sex column.
It's become a trashy newspaper. Did you read the article on changing the One-day and Test rules for cricket. It was outrageous.
Posted by: kickstart at November 1, 2004 03:14 PMET seems to putting advertisements even on its bannerhead !
TOI and ET are not trashy newspapers. They are just trash.

Well, now that we're at it; I'll share a fact. I don't really know whether this will be a revelation, but I have heard one of the Times Of India VPs (unnamed) say something in the lines of... "Hey, we don't sell news; we sell space for advertisements."
Not enough? Well he said that publicly in a conference that I happened to attend. Somehow the words stuck...
And oh yes, Just Say No is a must visit for every Times reader.
