I have been meaning to watch Shwaas for a long time now. My sis watched it, and told me it was good .. so I had to watch it .. cos she is extremely picky about liking films [pickier than me]. So we told Ajit to get a CD from India. Alas, we should have known better. After 3 freaking months to do it, somewhere in between missing flights, receiving presents from all over the world on his bday, calling the US at unearthly hours, going shopping with his exs and god knows what else.. he just plain didn't bring the CD. ... and now Shwaas is our entry for the Oscars. If someone (in the US) has a copy -- do let me know.
BTW .. who decides the entry? They .. or their taste in movies has definitely improved.. cos if I remember right, in some ghastly year .. our official entry for the oscars was .. Jeans!!
While we are on the subject of entertainment .. for all the Sholay fans .. soon to come are: screensavers, ringtone dialogues, wallpapers, movie clips and games based on the film. [Link]

Yeah me too wanting to see SHWAS !
I was told about the CD at the end of my stay ... I tried to get it ... but not wanting to pirate stuff (RIAA note ... :p ) I didn't get it.
Anyways there were more important things to do than get the CD. :p
Posted by: ajitomatix at September 27, 2004 12:49 AMI guess the movie that wins the President's award or whatever goes on to the oscars by default. OR maybe some babu commitee decides..
I didn't get to watch Shwass either, but I did watch 7 chya aat Gharat. Which was quite all right. now great, but much better than the Laxmikant Berde crap. Another movie making a name for itself was Devraai - about schizophrenia. [Much better than Ratra Arambha, I'm told]
Posted by: Chinmay at September 27, 2004 01:25 AMAfter reading your post, I am looking out for the movie actively. If I manage to get a copy, will get you one too... and fi you do, do let me know.
Posted by: gremlin at September 27, 2004 05:27 PMmany people have recommended 'shwaas'..but somehow the grim storyline puts me off..
Posted by: radhika at September 27, 2004 11:28 PMHi! Came in from the Acorn!
The official entry for the Oscars is specially selected by a particular govt film body (dont know the name). But it is not necessarily the National Best Movie award winner. Apparently the selection of Jeans had something to do with the fact that Vijay Amritraj was on the panel that year (the Indian entry selection panel).
Hey aNYa,
Thanks for dropping by my blog. Hope you get to see the movie soon!
Posted by: Jahnvi at September 29, 2004 02:09 AMShwaas ..I personally feel that it is a sad and pathetic story.Full of fake emotions and overacting by children ,who feel they will be the next Hritk or Shahrukh.
Always looking for that filmfare scene and speaking totraa on pulpose. That is annoying ..i hope the sonofagun in this movie does not speak totraaa marathi in this movie ..or every frame of this movie will be like a painful acupuncture needle
You freak marathi movie lovers. The only good marathi movie made was "Sandas laa kadich nahi"
I also liked
"Godadi madhe ghusudpusud"
and the documentry in which they teach u Aghori vidya and how to eat human meat ..ha ha ha MAAARA

Posted by: PR at October 1, 2004 01:03 AMHave heard that its an awesome movie...probably the talk of the town nowadays.
Posted by: pseudofreud at October 3, 2004 06:43 PMI saw shwaas yesterday! To be frank, seeing the marathi movies over the last few years I was skeptical whether it will really be a movie of the "OSCAR" class. But yes it is!! Its not ONLY emotional, not even plain practical ... its a proper mix of both and this is what differentiates it from thought-provoking commercial movies and out-n-out art films!
Apart from the storyline (which does keep you involved throughout) the cinematography is what makes you speechless! The way they have shot Konkan is simply awesome! Every frame is worth a hundred desktop wallpapers I have changed till now. And believe me ... none of this is exageration!
I remember "Devdas" was a previous nomination from India for the Oscar ... if something as pathetic as that can make it there (simply for the few crores spent on the artificial beauty of the sets), Shwaas is much better, considering its simplicity and budget! Atleast I felt sad after something sad happened to the hero of the story!!!
I'll definitely pray that Shwaas makes it to the top five!
