I switched my cell phone from a Motorola v120c to a Nokia 3589i . This was a week back, and I have noticed a general cheerfulness about me that after carefully analyzing can be attributed to the above act.
Nokia is a company I like. Okay, here perhaps I should make it clear that there is a short list of companies I like. There are a multitude of reasons, but nothing specific really .. and the 'list' has been there for a long time. Entries include:
Honda, Toshiba, Nokia , GE, Sharp [edit: sacrilege! I had forgotten Sharp].
Nokia has always been the market leader in mobile phones with lots of reason. Their phones are awesome. Simple. So, while news reports continued for weeks in the past month declaring the beating Nokia had taken in the Q1 losses, I was not too worried. The company has always pioneered the cellphone market with around a third of all units sold being Nokia cells. The downturn was mainly due to laudable advancement of Samsung and LG mobile phones. (Note that both companies do not belong to the elite 'list').
Nokia though has vowed to come back with an agressive approach and even deciding to launch more flip-phones, a category they are generally shy of. I am hoping they will introduce a camera phone for the CDMA market. (hopefully around the time I get a job)
Meanwhile heres a pathetic little Nok Nok joke I made up ..
Nok Nok
Who's there?
Nokia
Nokia who?
Nokia teeth off if ya continue these jokes.
Hey just like you I am a Nokia fan too......both my phones till now have been Nokia(one got stolen from hostel) and I feel they are really great.Unfortunately here they have tied up with Airtel and not with Idea(AT&T) which would have been a better alliance.Any way as you say they have stayed away from the flap model but are going to concentrate on that largely as the lack of good models in that segment has caused them huge losses in the US and Europe where they are quite popular.

There is already a Nokia Camera phone for the CDMA market. Its the Nokia 6225 and it was launched last year I think. Dont know if any of the providers offer it though.... My fav. nokia phone still remains the 3650.. Its big but is sooo awesome.. and I think T-Mobile offfer that phone with their service.... and that has a video camera (and a still camera as well)...

Posted by: toinks at May 25, 2004 09:00 AMFirst a straight ans. Toshiba is cool .. they have a WIDE range of products and excel at all of them.
Why Nokia, GE, Honda?
Like I said .. no explicit reasons .. maybe just the quality of their products .. but then again there are a lot of companies offering similar levels of quality.
The Q I would ask is why did u just ask why Toshiba?
Wait till I see you next time... :D
Posted by: Rohit at May 26, 2004 04:33 AMha ha ha .....
(For those who don't know .. Rohit is a high ranking exec in Motorola)
'cos I like the other companies too.
Honda is of course a great company with a lot of high qulity products+innovation.
GE under Welch was great.. I dunno what's going on there now.
Nokia makes the best cellphones (and used to make shoes, or something, for the Russian Army...)
Sharp also has a lot of great products and is usually considered a high quality company... I was wondering why you left off Sharp and Sony.. [And Motorola ;-)]
Toshiba? Probably because I didn't know anything about them.. I've always considered them a second file electronics co. What else do they make..
Posted by: Chinmay at May 26, 2004 04:59 PMToshiba laptops are among the best. I remember seeing a Toshiba elevator once and really liking it. Toshiba are makers of power stations, consumer electronics, medical imaging systems, semiconductor devices, construction equipment, communication equipment .. and more.
Posted by: anya at May 26, 2004 09:41 PMFirstly remove that misguiding "high ranking exec".
Secondly the camera phone on which I am currently working has in fact a Toshiba camera and it is good...
So today we are seeing the modest side it seems
