The Indian General Elections are less than a week away. Though I am sitting here half a world across, the excitement still grabs me as it would have had I been back home. Lets hope the electronic voting machines do their job well, with minimum glitches. If theres anything I hate abt our elections, it's the sundry re-elections that take place later due to various technicalities. That apart, it's gonna be fun.Heres a link to get you into the spirit.

Posted by: kiddo at April 20, 2004 08:41 AMI don't know about the Fun part yaar...Elections in India are usually marked with violence, which has started already (Poll stations were attacked in Kashmir).
I am just hoping that this would the act of violence in these elections..
Anya,
The first phase of polling already happened today man... mabbe u were talking about the polls in pune ;).... but yeah... elections always excite me... though i've never had the pleasure of actually casting my vote.... but for one, it always meant a holiday(if the polling is happening on a weekday) and wats more, it meant that we get to hear all kinds of wierd and untrue promises which is the hallmark of indian politics i think.....

polls in pune are on the 26th
For the first time even I am excited about the elections, mainly because I am actually able to follow them properly....I feel the NDA is going to form the Govt.....what I am keen on seeing is how many seats can the BJP win by itself.....thats going to determine the stability of this Govt...
Here in Pune, word is that Suresh Kalmadi is likely to win....trouble is 26th Monday is public holiday, and 24th sat is 4th sat.....meaning long weekend.....so many people will go out for a vacation. But this is likely to harm Rawat more coz this class is more likely to vote for him than Kalmadi.
They don't excite me no more ... it's the same old story. What I would like to see is a young (by political standards that's close to 40) prime ministerial candidate whos party wins by a clear majority and is free from the same old shitty issues that the current parties tend to give so much importance to.
I wonder though, whether electronic voting systems will hamper booth captures in Bihar. I guess not ...
