Elections in the world's largest two democracies within 4 months of each other. Time to rejoice. India in Apr-May and the US in Oct. While my interest in the US elections is growing, I am missing out on the election action back in India; being all the way over here and plus my overall schedule keeps me from reading all I want to about the same. General elections in India are always interesting. The BJP is still fielding Vajpayee as the Prime Ministerial candidate. The Congress(I) is floundering and really has no grounds to bark at the NDA except for secularity etcetra. That the economy is doing well despite the govt .. may be true or not .. what matters is it is doing well.
To me, the BJP looks ready to rule the roost. And Bush the US. But only due to the lack of a strong Democratic candidate. Lets wait and watch.

Posted by: gautam govitrikar at March 3, 2004 02:42 AM:) Elections are good fun... its hilarious to watch the politicians fall over each other trying to make fools of the opposition...
Posted by: toinks at March 3, 2004 02:51 AMWell looking at the way things are going the BJP and co stand the best chance of winning....of course you can never predict but ......
for the first time you have some solid leaders....ABVaj, LK Adv, Sushma S, Jassi Singh.....etc.
The economy is looking pretty good.Don't go by what all these damn finincial experts say.Look at the number of Mercs and Optras being bought everyday, look at the amount of money people are blowing at Pizza Huts and Pyramids Mall....both very expensive places.
Chagan Bhujbal is in deep s**t...and I am quite ready to believe that we can expect an arrest of either him or his nephew prior to the polls.
About the US elections, the one who shouts louder about banning out sourcing and H-1 visas will win.Needless to say once elected he will have to roll back citing long term benefits for the country. So all you guys can expect the H-1 fig to go back to the earlier one of 1,95,000!And I am planning to start a BPO in the spare room in my clinic instead of putting in a chair:)

Posted by: gautam at March 3, 2004 03:20 AMhey gautam .. long time man! glad u took out some time for us.. :P
u r right abt BJP raking it in .. my take on the US elections is that bush will win unless something drastic happens .. like maybe a new expose on the war etc.
Posted by: anya at March 3, 2004 12:35 PMEconomy looking good coz ppl spending money on expensive things (mercs / optras / pizza hut) dont quite understand the logic
Posted by: SHEKHAR at March 4, 2004 05:25 AMstarted commenting on why I think Bush will win. became too big to be a coment. read my post...
